What is a Power System?
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you flick a light switch? It’s not just magic; it’s a complex, high-speed network known as the Power System.
A Power System is a massive network of electrical components used to supply, transfer, and use electric power. From the massive turbines in a dam to the charger plugged into your phone, every piece plays a vital role in keeping our world running.
The Three Pillars of a Power System
To understand how electricity reaches you, we can break the system down into three main stages:
Generation: This is where the energy starts. Power plants convert fuel (coal, gas, nuclear) or natural resources (solar, wind, hydro) into electrical energy.
Transmission: Once generated, electricity needs to travel long distances. It is stepped up to high voltages using transformers to reduce energy loss as it travels across pylons and heavy-duty cables.
Distribution: This is the final leg of the journey. The high voltage is stepped down to a safer level (like 230V or 110V) and delivered to homes, offices, and factories.
Why Is It Evolving?
